Mapping to Your Plato Folder

In Windows (Macs below):

1. From the My Computer window, choose Map Network Drive from the Tools menu. window image

2. In the pop-up window, choose a drive letter that isn’t currently in use from the drop-down menu.

3. Then type in the server and folder name using the format \\academic01\plato in Erie, \\academic01\ne at North East, or \\academic01\west at the West Campus.

    • Check to Reconnect at logon and Finish. window image

4. Your URL will follow one of these patterns, depending on how your department decides to organize its folders. The department name will always be in the URL, and then you work down to the folder where your page is, listing any folder in between:

    • http://plato.mercyhurst.edu/department/ for pages in the department folder
    • http://plato.mercyhurst.edu/department/username for pages in an individual’s folder
    • http://plato.mercyhurst.edu/department/course or project name for pages in a course or special folder
    • North East Campus users need to add "ne" before the department folder name: http://plato.mercyhurst.edu/ne/department, etc.
    • West Campus users need to add "west" before the department folder name: http://plato.mercyhurst.edu/west/department, etc.

5. You can use the Copy function in the My Computer window to copy all your WWW files into the Plato folder (which does not require a WWW folder). Or if you have both your H drive and your Plato drive open in separate windows, you can drag and drop your files over.

  • I don't think everyone is reading that there is no need for a folder named www--it will only unnecessarily lengthen your URL.
  • Please do not create folder or filenames with capital letters or spaces.

On Macs: SMB or WebDAV

1. From the Go menu, choose Connect to Server.

2a. SMB Method (campus only) : In the pop-up window, type in the address smb://academic01/plato in Erie or smb://academic01/ne at North East or smb://academic01/west at the West Campus and Connect. You will be prompted to login with your username and password, as below:

2b. WebDAV Method (from campus or home): In the pop-up window, type in the address http://plato.mercyhurst.edu/Plato/departmentfoldername/userfoldername/, for example http://plato.mercyhurst.edu/Plato/education/bsmith/. You will then be promted to sign in differently than the smb authentication window:

You must type in the domain (mercyhurst), your username, and your password.

4. The drive will show up in your Finder window or on your desktop, depending on how your Finder preferences are set up.

5. URL patterns are the same as #5 in the Windows instructions. screen image
